The problem with combining a car and an aircraft is that one usually ends up with the worst of both worlds. Flying cars are all about compromise. The better the vehicle is at flying, the worse it performs on the road and vice versa. In addition to inherent engineering challenges, manufacturers need to keep costs down and ensure that the vehicle is safe to use on the road and in the air. However, it seems that several designers have created designs that overcome, or avoid, these inherent problems.
